Leicestershire County Council

Leicestershire County Council  has responsibility for certain services in the whole of Leicestershire, except the City of Leicester, where Leicester City Council is responsible. Leicester City Council is a unitary authority (no District Council or Town Councils).

The County Council is responsible for roads & transport, libraries, schools (although almost 100% of the school money these days comes from Central Government), social care, disposal of waste, and  registration of births, marriages & deaths.


The County Council is responsible for controversial areas like waste incinerators, new road building, and youth offending issues.
