Improved health care access

There is a major review underway of the level of NHS health services being provided in NW Leics. Whilst a new health centre has recently opened in Ravenstone, there are serious problems elsewhere.

This review must be undertaken swiftly and efficiently, and must result in improved, not reduced, services.

Paul pleadges to do all possible to improve the consultation processes involved.

Here are some of the problems.

* The Ashby Health Centre has outlived its facilities, and is short of space. The building is poorly maintained and needs care & attention, or new premises.
* A&E access is far away from all population centres. There are none in Castle Donington, Coalville, Kegworth, Ashby, Measham, and area. Out of ours and drop in services have recently improved, but further improvements are needed.
* The Ashby Cottage Hospital is used frequently to rehabilitate people who come out of hospital. It is too small to provide the full range of servoices needed. Some changes in provision are inevitable. But how ?
* The Coalville Community Hospital has the scope to provide wider services. What these are has to be decided soon on a professional basis. Will the right decisions be made ?

Express your view to Prof Paul Reynolds and the Lib Dems.

Progress will not be easy since the UK government is getting very short of money, due to the recession….

Going abroad to European Union countries ?

Did you know you can obtain a European Union Health Card to improve access to free health care when in another European Country ?

You can apply for the card online. (You may wonder why the UK government is being secretive about this)

The website for this is:

https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do

There is also an EU-wide  emergency number that you dial instead of 999, all over the EU. In European countries you dial 112 This also works in the UK.  You may also wonder why the government is being secretive about this too.
