Stop the mad housing plans in NW Leicestershire

Planned 25,000 houses for greenfield sites in NW Leics which are opposed by residents – new regional plans plus the addition of houses that were planned for the abortive Pennbury Eco Town.

We oppose these inflated plans that would destroy the semi-rural nature of the area, and could blight much of NW Leics for decades. No-one opposes normal housing growth. Planning madness.

Professor Paul Reynolds, Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesman in NW Leics has challenged Tory, Labour, and BNP Councillors on NW Leics District Council in Coalville to vote down the revised housing plan for the area.  Paul said ‘The revised Regional plan has just been published, and the Tories & Labour both say they are against the huge imposition of inflated housing targets, foisted mainly on Coalville - and set to destroy the Green Wedge’.  Paul added ‘If they are all really against it, then now is the time to vote it down, and I throw down the gauntlet to them to do so promtly’.

No to the mad housing plans

It could be the end of this rural North West Leicestershire scene.

Professor Reynolds explained ‘There is a largely spurious public consultation under way on the location of 10,200 extra houses. The deadline for objections was 23rd March. However, this is distracting local politicians from the main issue. There is NO public consultation underway on the actual total 10,200 number – only where to put them !  The 10,200 total is, formally, based on a study of housing ‘need’ which is seriously flawed, and the District Council can call an emergency meeting to vote against acceptance of this number, by voting down the calculations it is based upon’.

‘They are fully entitled to do so under the 2004 Planning Act and other laws’ Paul continued. ‘So let’s see if they vote it down, or if the Tories & Labour continue to play the blame game between each other, and pretend they have changed their mind and are now are against the crazy plan….. or…. if they call a meeting, propose the requisite motions against the flawed study, and vote it down !’
